We did something a little unusual on Saturday … Our first visit to a Wild-Zone Family Play Day, hosted at the Ulistac Natural Play Area in Santa Clara.

We joined a bunch of other families — including the Martin-Mackenzies — for outdoor play building stuff with totally natural materials. Jocelyn built a tee pee structure (complete with cooking stove) from palm fronds, bamboo, and other miscellaneous tree parts.

Felicia and Kiana built similar structures, and also helped build a mud castle for a family of worms they found. The adults got into the action too, building creative a little village and a variety of other imaginative structures.

It turns out that our plowing contract for our new Serene Lakes Cabin doesn’t include weekdays. Who knew?

This can be a problem if one shows up to the cabin late on a Thursday night thinking sleep is just a few moments away, as happened last night. Fortunately, I had new snowboarding buddy Aaron with me. And although he couldn’t talk me out of trying to get into the garage, he did help dig out the Volvo after it bottomed out on the road snowplow’s bank. And he took this picture.

In case you were wondering, that was at least a foot of snow on the driveway which was all gone by Friday afternoon, thanks to our plow service and an incredibly sunny “bluebird” day that we spent at Sugar Bowl.
