What better way to spend April Fool’s Day at elementary school then to make some wacky gauze masks?
The mask-making is part of the Booksin School “Art Vistas” program, and is a traditional Fourth grade activity. Felicia and I got to witness the festivities and record the moment for posterity.
The kids took turns with partners, applying vaseline and then laying on wet gauze coated with plaster of paris. After the masks were dry enough, they were peeled off the kids and left to dry completely. On a later date, the kids will enhance the masks and paint them as an art project.
The finished projects will be on display in late May for “Open house” and then they’ll come home.
